What is IELTS?
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is one of the major English language test in the world. Around 2 million people across the world appear for this test.

IELTS is managed by 3 organizations.

1. Cambridge English Language Assessment.
2. British Council.
3. IDP Education.

There are 2 types of IELTS Exam.

1. Academic - usually taken by students
2. General - usually taken by skilled professionals.

Why you may need to take IELTS exam?

Good score in IELTS exam is required if you want to do below things.

1. You want to take higher education in English speaking countries like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
2. You want to apply for skilled visa in Australia or New Zealand.

What is the IELTS exam pattern or format?

IELTS has four sections.

1. Reading 
2. Writing
3. Listening 
4. Speaking

Listening and speaking sections are same for academic and general test

You are given score bands in each section from 1 to 9. Band 1 means non-user. Band 9 means super user. Band of 6 means you have a competent English skill. Different institutes need different band levels. For example - Skill based point system for 189 Australian Visa, you need a band score of 7 in each section.

How to register for the IELTS exam?

You can visit the IELTS website to find out the nearest test centre. In Pune (Indian City), there are 2 centres of IELTS. First one is British Council at Ferguson College and other one is IDP education near E-square theatre. Fee for IELTS is different in different country. In India it costs around $160.
